(3) Contact your state legislators to tell them what happened. Tell them to end driver’s license suspensions, arrest warrants and jail time for nonpayment of fine and fees. Explain to them the negative impact that unaffordable fines and fees had on your life. The most important people to contact are your representative in the Texas House of Representatives and your senator in the Texas Senate. (The U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate don’t make state-level laws impacting the Texas criminal justice system.) Don’t hesitate to call and email them and tell them what’s happening – their job is to listen to you and represent you!
